“What is the Cloud?”

Probably the most common thing we face here at Hosted Network is a misunderstanding of what the Cloud actually is, so I thought I’d kick off our first blog post with the biggest question we face. “What is the Cloud?”.

First of all, its a marketing term, and it has a different meaning to many different people and industries, so here lies the problem for many of our clients! Sorry to say, but none of the IT related definitions actually refer to clouds in the sky though.

The most general definition of “Cloud”, which is also how Hosted Network works, is that the term “Cloud” means centrally stored and accessible from anywhere. In our terms this means that all of the servers and data are stored in a data center which is then accessible from the internet .

Technically speaking if you have a computer in your home or office and are able to connect to it remotely this meets the definition of cloud. Where Hosted Network takes this to the next level though is that we’re not just hosting servers in our office or garage! We host all of our servers in a world class data center specially designed for companies like us.

Some of the features include:

  • 24/7 Security
  • Redundant Power
  • Redundant Cooling
  • Biometric and Swipe Card Access

Hosted Network hosts with a world leader in data centers called Equinix, in their latest flagship data center – SYD3 in Mascot, Sydney. So whilst many businesses use the ‘buzz’ term cloud, Hosted Network is able to take it to the next level, ensuring maximum security and accessibility for your business.
